Press Release:
'Rock the Green' Eco-Lifestyle Music Fest to Debut
First Annual Event Seeks Corporate Sponsorships

Milwaukee, Wis., May 30, 2009-- Milwaukee’s ‘green’ power ratchets up with the launch of Rock the Green, the city’s first-ever eco-lifestyle music festival – a large-scale event that will fuse a first-class concert featuring five bands and eclectic eats with environmentally-friendly living.  The event is scheduled for September 2011 and will take place at Veterans Park located next to Lake Michigan. LuLu Live photo

Unique to the local festival scene, Rock the Green will entertain while enlightening Milwaukeeans about the benefits of maintaining a ‘green’ lifestyle.  Attendees can bask in the sun while enjoying nationally-known recording artists to be announced early next year, along with a variety of local restaurants offering a wide selection of health-conscious and multi-ethnic cuisine.  Interactive eco-friendly booths and sponsors will educate attendees on topics related to environmental awareness as well as health of the mind, body and soul.

LuLu Live, the event management firm creating the festival, is currently seeking a broad range of businesses for multiple levels of corporate sponsorship.  As the eco-movement continues to gain more momentum in mainstream life, festival sponsors will have the opportunity to associate their brand with the green culture shift.  In addition to an on-site presence at the event, sponsors will be included in an expansive marketing campaign that features heavy advertising and promotion with a local radio station as well as a fully-integrated print, television, online and street marketing initiatives that will enable businesses to reach a large audience.   Onsite booth space will be provided at no cost to local non-profits with an emphasis on the environment or other causes related to personal health and well-being.

“We are pleased to welcome the city’s first eco-lifestyle festival Rock the Green at Milwaukee County’s Veterans Park,” said Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker.  “It will be a great chance to enjoy music and fun at the lakefront while learning more about the benefits of going ‘green’.”

Rock the Green will be a revolutionary eco-friendly event production on every level.  The Festival has retained event greening specialists The Spitfire Agency, who specialize in ‘near zero-waste’ events.  This includes but is not limited to powering the festival on clean energy (solar, biodiesel), replacing all disposable items with their compostable equivalents, and running an on site Green Team which will man waste recovery stations both back of the house and throughout the festival grounds.  Carpooling, public transportation and bicycling to the event will be encouraged.  A free bike valet service will be available for event attendees.

“Milwaukee welcomes the "Rock the Green" festival.  The event will showcase Milwaukee's role as a sustainable community and on our tradition of hosting great festivals. Rock the Green offers a fun and easy way for local businesses and residents to support our community’s efforts to make smart “green” choices,” said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.

A portion of Rock the Green proceeds will go to benefit two vital environmental organizations in Milwaukee. The Urban Ecology Center (UEC), which operates Environmental Community Centers in Milwaukee’s Riverside and Washington Parks has become a “home-grown” national model for urban environmental education. Serving over 60,000 visitors a year the UEC is known as a standard bearer for green living in the City.  Rock the Green will help support and grow children’s education programs for underserved youth. The Greater Johnsons Park Initiative is an urban neighborhood greening project that is attracting national attention. Led by the Center for Resilient Cities, Preserve Our Parks, and the NAACP-Milwaukee Branch, the project includes the revitalization of Johnsons Park (a 13-acre Milwaukee County park that includes a community garden), the greening of the Brown Street Academy schoolyard, and green streetscapes. The Park Initiative is creating an interconnected network of green infrastructure—community green spaces that will result in environmental, social, and economic benefits to the surrounding Fond du Lac and North Avenue neighborhoods.

"Working together with these organizations, Rock the Green will play an important role in supporting our kid’s environmental education as well as helping to create more environmentally sustainable urban neighborhoods for Milwaukee,” said Sue Black, Milwaukee County Parks Director.
